Monument Rocks (also Chalk Pyramids) are a series of large chalk formations in Gove County, Kansas, rich in fossils. The formations were the first landmark in Kansas chosen by the US Department of the Interior as a National Natural Landmark. We learned about these chalk pyramids while watching Aerial America on the Smithsonian Channel. The pyramids are worth seeing if you are driving through Kansas, but not the easiest to get to (lots of small towns along the way). The pyramids are on private property that the owners leave open to the public, which is pretty awesome.
